About the Author
Professor Zhang conducts research on Rock Mechanics, Rock Engineering, Sustainable Geotechnics, Geoenvironmental Engineering and Earthquake Engineering. He received his Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Tongji University, China and in Civil and Environmental Engineering from MIT, USA. His PhD was received in Geotechnical Engineering from MIT. He has published over 50 articles in international peer reviewed journals such as Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences. Currently Prof. Zhang teaches the following courses at graduate level at The University of Arizona:
• Geotechnical Engineering and Design
• Foundation Engineering
• Earth Structures in Geotechnical Engineering
• Ground Improvement
• Geoenvironmental Engineering

Professor Zhang is the Principal Investigator or Co-PI in more than 15 grants and contracts from National and State institutions and Private Companies. He has received awards such as ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Fellow, 2011; First Runner-Up, Young Professor Paper Competition, Deep Foundations Institute, 2008; Arthur D. Little Corporate Star Case Awards, 2001, 2002; Science and Technology Progress Award, China Education Ministry, 1994 ;Outstanding Young Faculty Member Award, Tongji University, Shanghai, China, 1993

The most important thing you need to pass the Practitioner Exam, at an ok price.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Since this is the definitive(and currently only) book for the newly created ITIL Practitioner certification, this book is essential for passing the exam. All the material you need to know for the exam is covered in this book. So this book gets points for being complete. There are occasional illustrations and charts included to help understand the concepts, including a helpful appendix with related topics. It can be a bit wordy at times, but I prefer too much information rather than too little.

I bought it on Kindle for $54. It's not a great deal considering the size of the book, but I guess considering that it is the ONLY one on the market they could have taken me for more. So Ill say the price is "OK".

ABOUT THE EXAM THE BOOK PREPARES YOU FOR:

I passed the exam with 80%. To prepare I read this book and took the two sample exams(which are free downloadable PDFs). I also have almost a decade of working in an organization that implements ITIL framework. Axelos currently only hosts "Sample Paper 2" on its website. I did a search for "Sample Paper 1" and found it on some other site. These sample exams are pretty terrible as far as providing clearly worded questions. That may be why they don't include SE1 anymore on their site, it was the worse of the two. I found many of the questions on the sample papers to be ambiguous as far as how to interpret the correct answer. In other words you can understand the content but still answer it wrong due to being unclear about what they are actually asking. So what Im trying to say is that in addition to this book take both of the sample exams(to be prepared for the ambiguity) and read the explanations to the answers so that you will more easily(although not completely) be able to decipher meanings to similar questions on the exam.

Little bit pricey for the size of the book, but it has good material. One note though, if you're going to take the test. It is an open book test. However, you can only bring an UNMARKED book. So if you like to highlight and write in the margins, you either don't get to use your book or you'll have to buy/borrow another one.

This is essential to anyone that is either heavily involved in IT Service Management or has a passing interest in it. It brings many needed and refreshing views to ITIL as a whole and it does change your perspective about it to a degree. I do not lie when I say that some of the guidance here was sorely needed 8 or 10 years ago.

It is a bit pricey, even the Kindle edition, but it is worth every penny. And it is, of course, indispensable when going through the test.

This book is fantastic. I have read every marketing book under the sun and this one is the best overall.
I will follow Dan Kennedy's work for sure. I have ordered most of his other books too!
I got clear about how direct marketing works for every business and specifically how it applies to my business.
There are also specifics about what to do, which many marketing books lack.

A Bargain Book of Ideas for Local Businesses

I've been a follower of Dan Kennedy for awhile when I wanted to learn the art of copywriting. I rediscovered his direct marketing materials through this easy to read book. You will find more than nuggets in this book but a goldmine of information about the discipline of direct marketing. Dan is an expert guide on how to use and apply it and provides some excellent practical case studies on its implementation.

For the $12 you pay it's a steal. Even if you only get one or two ideas that you feel are good for you you'll be ahead of the game, but I'd wager you'll not have time to implement everything you'll discover here. Choose wisely.

Do not expect this book to "crack the code" of weaving social marketing into Direct Marketing. Dan is skeptical of value of social marketing for a local business using direct marketing - check out work of Kim Walsh-Phillips who has worked with Dan's company on cracking the code for them using Facebook. But start with this book first to learn the basics and the ground rules.

Dan makes frequent mention of his other books as providing more information to a specific topic discussed. Is this marketing his other books within his books going to offend some people? Possibly, if you object to an expert marketer doing what he preaches to others, and still providing value at the same time. Those critical of this strategy miss the point altogether.

Dan always offers great value in his products - even those costing many hundreds of dollars - but for this price you can't go wrong.

Dan Kennedy gives alot of clarity about what works and what doesnt

This is my fifth book ive read from Dan kennedy, but i should have been my firs.
It essentially gives you a foundation for how to properly market your products without
looking like everyone else who is adverising. Kennedy also ells as o why other companies adverise
the way they do, and why we should advertise using Lead Generation advertising and Direc Response teqniques. I would highly reccomend this book to ANYONE who has a business card, and looking to make more money. Dan Kennedy is probably the best
at what he does. I would say hes the "king" of Marketing

The Langenscheidt Picture Dictionary is a terrific way to get started in learning German. Just as a child typically learns to speak by first learning the names of things around him or her, this dictionary allows one to learn the German words for hundreds of common items, plus several action verbs. With attractive picures accompanying each word, the dictionary provides a fun see-and-name means of learning.
A friend and I have used this book for hours at at time to quiz each other's elementary German skills and it has been a real benefit to progressing to more advanced levels in the language.
At the very least, this book would be a fun and easy tool for anyone to use as a tourist, helping them communicate the basics on a trip to Deutscheland!

Cant a couple Talk?

I did not like this book. Tre was so angry at Leigh. He would treat her poorly that she was afraid to be in the same room with him. Tre felt his heart was being ripped out everything he saw Leigh. It took them over ten years to get this right. I really dont like a book with the majority of it is filled with questions never being asked and a lot of assumtions. Then as the other reviewer mention was the ending. There was no ending. Once everything was reveled and it looked like they could finially be together Leigh leaves Tre for serveral months. She didnt call him, she didnt return his calls nothing. Again the lack of communication. Then she just comes back with the carefee additude and the writer was giving you the impression that Leigh my be pregnant but nothing was mentioned. Did not like this one at all.

Go read her other book - Addicted to you. She wrote this under the name of Bethany Kane.

One of my favorite authors has again given me a good read. Long lost loves reunite but, guilt keeps her from being happy until she discovers the truth. But will he accept her a third time? I highly recommend this novel as the twists, turns and steamy love scenes will peak all your interests. This is a page turner. Would love to see a sequel......Come on Beth and give us another!

This was a great book. I loved the ways she flashed back from one time to another. The only thing I wish is that it would have been a little longer. Maybe there will be a part 2 somewhere down the road.

A small slice of Boxing history

Boxing is a fantastic sport with a deep and rich history filled with many great fights and fighters. This little pocketbook(not much larger than a CD jewel case) is roughly over 90 pages and is filled with a nice snapshot of some of the most memorable fights and feuds over the past century starting from 1936 with Black American Joe Louis going up against German Max Schmeling.

Each fight description starts with a quick bio of each fighter including basic info such as d.o.b, hometown, height/weight, boxing record, and whatever title they've held up to that point. Then there is a quick background on what led up to that fight along with a short description of the boxing match and then the fallout after the match.

Each famous bout is given four full pages with two devoted to the text and the other two containing two full-color photos(some of the earlier bouts are in black & white). Some of the well-known bouts include Ali/Foreman, Tyson/Douglas, Leonard/Hagler, and Bowe/Holyfield.

This book was originally published in the UK during 2007, right before the explosion of Pacquiao & Mayweather; so there are no Pacman or Floyd Jr matches. Minor gripes would be that a few of the photos are a bit blurry/unclear and a match or two might not belong in here(or rather, a better selection could be made). Overall a nice choice for those who want to learn about boxing history.

About the Author

Dr. Leslie Portney is the Director of Graduate Programs in Physical Therapy for the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Leslie graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the MGH Institute, a PhD in Gerontology from Boston University, a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Medical College of Virginia, and a Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a licensed physical therapist in both New York and Massachusetts. Leslie has authored a multitude of books and has contributed to a variety of different publications including the PT—Magazine of Physical Therapy. Leslie is currently a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and on the Task Force on Uniform Outcomes Assessment.

Dr. Mary Watkins is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Graduate Programs in Physical Therapy for the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Mary graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the MGH Institute and a Master of Science from Boston University. Mary is a licensed physical therapist in Massachusetts, a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Mary has authored many book chapters and contributed to a number of different publications including the Journal of Hand Therapy, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation and the Journal of Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy.

If you have a rehabilitation background and need to understand statistics this is a great book. I bought this book as a supplement for my statistics class. It explains concepts so well! Our professor changed to this book the next year. All the OTs and PTs in my PhD program have bought this book. This is in my keep forever collection. Everyone in my department has the book and only loans it out with strict instructions for its return.

About the Author
Jean Hollander is a poet, teacher, and director of the Writers' Conference at the College of New Jersey.

Robert Hollander, her husband, has been teaching Dante’s Divine Comedy to Princeton students for forty years, and is the author of a dozen books and more than seventy articles on Dante, Boccaccio, and other Italian authors. He has received many awards, including the gold medal of the city of Florence, in recognition of his work on Dante.

They are at work on their translation of Paradiso, the conclusion of the Divine Comedy.

Needs better protection

I bought this item as a gift for my brother, when I received it the cover and a few of the pages in the front had a tears. Luckily he was still happy but as a book collector myself I was disappointed at the quality in which it arrived- if it had been for me I would be returning it but he insists he's happy so I guess that's all that matters.

Best translation, to my knowledge.

My dad's friend, who teaches a class on Medieval literature at a local college, saw I was reading a different translation of the Divine Comedy, and recommended I get the Hollanders' version, claiming it was both the most accurate and the best to read. I'll have to take his word as far as being the most accurate, but I can say, of the three translations I've read, this one is by far the most enjoyable to read. They perfectly capture the mood, feel, and beauty of Dante, and I don't see any reason to ever read a different translation. Part of what makes the Hollanders' version superior are the wonderful explanatory notes and pre-chapter outlines, which guide you through the journey page by page, and make the journey that much more enjoyable. They notes, rather than being boring and confusing, are well written and enjoyable to read. Last but not least, the maps in the introductions to all of the books (maps of hell, purgatory, and paradise) really add to the feel of the journey Dante and Virgil take. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

For those who ordered the Kindle and got Kirkpatrick instead of Hollander: go to the Princeton Dante Project online. The Hollanders are unbelievably generous in putting all of their Dante scholarship on a navigable website. Italian text, English translation, easily accessed line-by-line notes, Dante's pre-Commedia works... FREE!

I was several cantos into the Hollander Inferno years ago, when I realized that I was going to spend the rest of my life reading this work, and so it is proving to be. The English translation is beautiful. The explanatory notes are illuminating, providing an immersion into the world of Dante and classical literature.

I've read that on Homecoming Weekend, Princeton alumni march in a parade, class by class, beginning with the oldest graduating class... except for Prof. Hollander's Dante students, who insist on marching as a group, so illuminating did they find the experience. One can see why. I'm on my third journey with Virgil and the Hollanders, and I am everlastingly grateful to them.
